Tourism in Bologna still grows
Also 2016 has confirmed the growth trend for tourism in Bologna. In fact, in the first 10 months of the year compared to the same period of 2015, overnights increased by 7% in the city and by 4.9% in the whole area of wide Bologna.
Again the growth was mainly supported by international tourists: visitors from the UK, top origin, up 16% compared to 2015. Tourists from Spain follows (+ 22.3%), the United States (+ 3.4%) and Germany (+ 12.7%). Good performance also for tourists from the Middle East and Asia in general, which have recorded an overall increase in overnights by 22%. It must be finally considered the increase of visitors from Australia, that were grown by 15% in 2016.
"Tourism in the city shows a fair growth pace since several years, and more and more visitors, especially foreigners, discover and appreciate the cultural and gastronomic attractions of our territory. The aim is now to focus more on itineraries and routes that stretch throughout the wide Bologna area, from the plain to the Apennines" said Matteo Lepore, councilor for Economy and Promotion of Bologna City Council.
In 2016, many activities have been developed by Bologna Welcome: the inauguration of a infopoint completely renovated in Piazza Maggiore, the creation of the Visit Card for 72 hours, the introduction of new tours and packages related to the worlds of culture, music, gastronomy and engines (Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Ducati).
